The newest trailer for Narnia: Gods of Rock was just released by Netflix and it seems like a surprisingly traditional take on C.S. Lewis’s first chronological book. The Magician’s Nephew takes place in the 1900s. C.S. Lewis himself was born in 1898 and so as a teen in the 1910s was naturally a huge fan of musicians in the 1960s like Jimmy Hendrix, Heart, and Smashmouth. Playing the electric guitar is probably how he got his babe Joy Davidman to marry him.
The Trailer
The trailer starts out with Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin and fades into a rainbow hued frenzy of colors. You also see fantastical creatures like centaurs, satyrs, and British policemen. Lisa Frank would blush at this visual assault of the eyes.

The Plot
As far as the plot goes this is what we believe happens.
Aslan takes on the White Witch who we think is a principal for a stuffy prep school. Then he tricks her into letting him teach the children but what he actually does is sign them up for a Battle of the Bands. They keep the charade up that they are learning lame things like math and science but they are actually learning rock n’ roll. Then without her or the parents knowing they go to compete and actually make it to the championship.
The parents are initially mad but learn about the transformative power of music and can’t believe that their boring kids are now cool cultured. Of course it’s possible we are confusing this with the plot to School of Rock…
Who knows? We can only tell so much from the trailer.
Are you looking forward to the movie? Do you think Harry Potter and Gandalf will make an appearance?
